The Problem That Didn’t Have a Solution
I was stymied by conditions that wouldn’t allow gardening to happen. It was crucial that a structure address our arid climate, poor soil, ravenous critters, and seasonal wind. After scouring big box stores and the web, I was convinced that what I was looking for didn’t exist.
So, with precepts of value and durability in mind, I built my own. Despite my gardening skills at the time, crops flourished like never before.
A Second Career at Sixty
After several successful seasons, I dreamed of providing what I had for others. In my sixties, I embarked on my second career.
It wasn’t always simple. There were growing pains—refining construction techniques and figuring out how to market a boutique business. I am eternally thankful to the mentors and craftsmen whose creativity made assembly in the field a reality for our homeowners, schools, Pueblos, and micro-farms.
The “Secret Sauce” and the Competition
Ten years after registering with the PRC, I see ads everywhere sporting deer-proofing, u-shaped raised beds, and actual access doors—features we pioneered.
It is a huge compliment that well-capitalized corporations have researched Mud Hub and included our features in their products. However, they still haven’t solved the “secret sauce” items we incorporate into our pricing.
A Personal Commitment
I made a business decision to meet like-minded gardening enthusiasts and fellow Master Gardeners on a personal basis. For this opportunity, I am grateful for the support from family, friends, and the growing community of Mud Hub owners.
